Oblique Hole Stitching Guide – Everything You Need to Know

by EvansLloyd 31 Jan 2025 0 Comments

1. Understanding Oblique Holes: Why Do They Look Different?

Some customers may notice round holes on their kit and wonder if there was a mistake. Rest assured, this is intentional.

  • Why are there round holes in my kit?
In some sections of the kit, round holes are used for stitching instead of oblique holes to simplify assembly. These round holes are strategically placed so they will not be visible on the exterior once stitched.

  • Where are the oblique holes?
Oblique holes are designed for a sleek, professional leather bag finish and are often positioned where they are less visible from the outside. They require a slightly different sewing approach, which we will explain below.

  • How to locate oblique holes?
If you are unsure about the oblique holes in your kit, please check the leather pieces carefully. If needed, feel free to send us a picture, and we will gladly help verify them for you.Leather piece with oblique holes(example)

2. How to Stitch Oblique Holes?

Why Choose Oblique Holes?

Oblique holes create a refined and high-end look, making the stitching appear more seamless and elegant compared to round holes. However, they do require a bit more precision when sewing.

Key Stitching Tips:

  • Align the holes carefully: Oblique holes can be subtle, so take your time to match them correctly.
  • Use the saddle stitching method: This is also known as double needle stitching, where two needles pass through the holes alternately to create a strong and even stitch.
  • Keep the needle perpendicular to the leather: This ensures a uniform and professional finish.

Common Challenges & Solutions:

  • Difficulty inserting the needle?
Try gently pulling the leather around the hole to open it up slightly before threading the needle through.
  • Struggling with alignment?
Pay close attention to the stitching pattern and ensure each stitch is placed in the corresponding oblique hole.
  • Unsure about the technique?
We strongly recommend watching our video tutorials for step-by-step guidance (links provided below).

3. Video Tutorials & Learning Resources

Official Tutorials:

Have you checked the QR code in your kit? It links to a step-by-step tutorial. If you need additional guidance, here are two recommended videos:

  • Saddle Stitching Basics (we also call it double needle stitching method):

  • Oblique Hole Stitching in Action – A review by YouTuber Mx Domestic:

Mx Domestic shared a video where he worked with the oblique hole Babylon Lindy bag kit: In the video, he introduces various methods, uses, and benefits of oblique hole stitching. From 1:25 to 2:00, you’ll find a detailed demonstration.

Note: If your kit is the round-hole version, you may skip the oblique hole sections in the tutorial and follow the remaining instructions for assembly.

4. Upcoming Video Support

We understand that visual guidance is extremely helpful, and we are currently planning to film a new tutorial specifically for oblique hole kits (such as the Kelly bag).

However, due to a high volume of orders, our production and customer support teams are working at full capacity, which may cause some delays. We truly appreciate your patience and will notify customers as soon as the new video is available.

5. Need More Help?

If you’re still experiencing difficulties, please don’t hesitate to reach out! You can also send us pictures of your stitching progress, and we’ll provide tailored advice to help you through the process.

We truly appreciate your effort and patience, and we’re here to support you every step of the way. Happy sewing! ✨
